The scene surrounding Laili, a newly opened, chef-driven stall at the Dallas Farmers Market, was buzzing last Saturday afternoon. Families and friends waited in line outside of the Mediterranean tile-clad stall, contemplating which delicious sounding dish they would order on the menu.

The scene surrounding Laili

Laili offers tapas style appetizers, like an eggplant bruschetta and hummus plates, an assortment of Chef’s Signature and kebab dishes and a glorious display of sweets in a case by the cash register. The staff is extraordinary friendly, giving out endless samples of their homemade hummus and dips and explaining the menu’s flavor profiles in detail to guests trying to make the best decision for their meals.

Hummus Plate Featuring Tomato Hummus

When selecting the hummus plate as an appetizer, the hardest part was choosing which of their extensive list of hummus flavors would be the winner for the plate. The tomato hummus was light and flavorful and was the perfect balance to many of the other bold flavors in the entrees. It was also served with Afghani bread that is crisped to perfection from a drizzle of olive oil, but still impeccably soft in the inside.

Chicken Tikki Wrap

Another unique item on the menu is the selection of kebab wrap sandwiches, served in crunchy baked bread with a side salad. The Chicken Tikka Wrap packed on some serious peppery spice that is not for the faint of heart.  If you are a fan of spice that makes you sweat, this is the menu item for you. The special last weekend was a Chicken Korma with rice. The light tomato sauce on the chicken with a large helping of rice had a comforting taste with hints of Middle Eastern spices.

Brunch and daily specials featured at Laili

In addition to their regular menu, Laili also offers a brunch menu on the weekends with tempting options like Challah French Toast and Pomegranate Mimosas.

Laili Cafe & Bakery recently opened in Plano, offering some of the same menu items in a casual setting - order at the counter and grab a seat. There is not a Plano specific menu on the website and the couple of times we stopped in, the offerings varied. They do have several fresh baked pastries and desserts in the case everyday - ranging from cookies, to baklava to lemon tarts.

Laili certainly offers a distinctive experience in the Dallas Farmers’ Market that you will be hard pressed to find elsewhere around the city. And now that the Plano location is open, suburbanites do not have to make the trek to downtown Dallas to enjoy a fresh and flavorful meal from this gem.
