Mexican Sugar, the new eatery from those who gave us Whiskey Cake and Velvet Taco, is the new darling of The Shops of Legacy and is well deserved. The group, Fork it Over Inc, know how to do things right and deliver the goods. Even though there was an hour wait at 5:45 this past Saturday we loved everything about this new hot spot from the hip interior to the friendly and efficient service to the "Yum" inspiring cuisine.

Chips, Salsa and Queso Blanco

Have to wait for a table? No problem. Take a seat in the cool circular waiting area (with suspended wood tables) nosh on appetizers and cocktails. There are lots of handcrafted cocktails (called "Beautifiers" and "Fascinators" on the menu) to choose from like a Hibiscus Margarita and a Mexican Mudslide. Of course a well curated list of bottled as well as draft beers and even a Sangria Kit for 4 with assorted fruit and sugar cane sticks.

Arepas

The Arepas are comprised of griddled corn cakes, ropa Vveja (shredded skirt steak in a tomato sauce base), slaw and cilantro cream and was the favorite of the table.

Bone-in Pork Chop

Under the menu heading "Parrilla" from the live wood grill or plancha, you will find entrees like Pan Roasted Whole Snapper, Chili Beef Tenderloin and Bone-in Pork Chop.

Lomo Tacos and Brussels Sprout Shred

The Lomo Tacos were tasty morsels stuffed with ancho roasted beef tenderloin, pickled radish, chimmichurri, epazote, manchego, tomato-mango chutney and cilantro.

Pumpkin Flan

Chocolate Avocado Cake

The desserts are as great as the main events. Try the Pumpkin Flan with Caramel & Candied Pepitas, the Horchata 5 Leches and the Chocolate Avocado Cake with Cinnamon Meringue.

Mexican Sugar is a great spot for groups, families, date night, girls night out-you name it. The restaurant is broken into several types of dining experiences from cozy booths, standard tables, communal tables and couches with low tables. But no matter where you sit you'll savor this upbeat, delicious environment!
