Royal Blue Grocery, an Austin-based café and market, recently branched out to a new location in Dallas’s Highland Park Village. Royal Blue has a reputation for being the ideal place to grab everything from unique groceries to quick meals and coffee, and the Dallas location certainly doesn’t disappoint. From the moment you step inside, it’s reminiscent of a classic local market, complete with a floral section, deli, and extensive wine selection.

Royal Blue's beautiful floral section is just one of its many enticing features.

Whether you’re looking to stock up on groceries, seeking a unique gift, or just in the mood for a snack, Royal Blue has something to suit your needs. Their café counter features a variety of freshly-prepared sandwiches and treats, and it’s the perfect place to grab anything from a light bite to a full meal. When it comes to snacks, you really can’t go wrong with satisfying your sweet tooth. We recommend ordering a cake ball, or snagging a handmade Nutella Rice Krispie Treat from the coffee counter. Both are sweet, but still small enough to avoid spoiling your appetite.

The classic Rice Krispie Treat gets an upgrade through the addition of creamy Nutella.

Royal Blue offers a full range of coffees and hot beverages, but they also serve wines by the glass, which pair perfectly with a snack or meal from their lunch counter. Even if you’re just stopping in for a sweet treat, ordering a glass to go with it is never a bad idea.

A sweet, tiny cake ball is the perfect accompaniment to a mid-afternoon glass of wine.

If you’re a bit hungrier and looking for a meal, nearly every sandwich on the menu at Royal Blue is worth a try. The Italian is especially delicious because it features a savory combination of prosciutto, capicolla, tomato, mozzarella, and pesto served on griddled focaccia bread.

Royal Blue's Italian sandwich is an ideal selection for a quick, savory lunch.

Royal Blue features plenty of open seating, including an upstairs area that’s ideal for studying or casual coffee-sipping. It’s a great place for meeting friends for lunch or drinks, and they host frequent wine tastings that offer even more incentive to plan a visit.

The selection alone is enough to encourage attendance at Royal Blue's frequent wine tastings.

The rest of the market is just as enticing, because it’s filled with unique and specialty grocery items that will give your pantry a little pizzazz. Stop in to browse, and you’re likely to find at least one thing you want to try, whether it’s a special wine, a unique cheese, or some local snack worth digging into. Or just visit their floral section and pick up some blooms to brighten your home, or the home of a friend. No matter what you’re in the mood for, Royal Blue truly has something to offer everybody.

Royal Blue is open seven days a week, and it tends to get busiest on weekends. If you’re planning to visit for breakfast, get there early, as breakfast tacos tend to sell out quickly. Otherwise, plan a trip for the afternoon and whittle away the hours with a good book, a cup of coffee, and a sweet treat to enhance your mood.
