It was only a few weeks ago when we began scouring restaurant week menus to select some fantastic dinners at affordable prices. From the menus featured in our sneak peek blog, let’s take a closer look at our Café Pacific visit.

Café Pacific has long been a Highland Park favorite and is one of our classic listings. Famous for their consistently outstanding seafood dishes, this upscale and inviting eatery does not disappoint. Nestled in the historic and premier shopping center, Highland Park Village, the restaurant is a pleasing combination of elegance and approachability. It meets all the check marks of a fine-dining establishment but remains warm, friendly, and relaxed. Perhaps that’s why it is a neighborhood favorite among the Highland Park crowd.

Having basically memorized the restaurant week menu, I stepped into the classy establishment with my order in mind. To our surprise, we were handed a menu with a larger selection than what was published online. Very exciting!

Our waiter was one of the more courteous and charming ones we’ve had without being overbearing. It’s such a treat when you land a staffer that comes to your table at just the right times, connects with you just enough, and makes helpful suggestions. Everything we ordered was good, but the standouts were as follows: escargots, lemon sole amandine, and their well-known dessert, the pecan ball.  Typically a steak-lover, I would have ordered the sole again over the beef.

Complimentary shoestring sweet potato fries

The oysters were fresh and perfectly broiled.

Garlicky, buttery escargot heaven. This dish was beyond tasty.

The Lemon Sole Amandine (found on the regular menu as well) was the highlight. Crispy and slightly buttery on the outside, the fish was utterly delicious. The lemon butter sauce provided a delightful touch that left us wanting to soak up every bit. We would order this over and over again.

Steak frites is always a solid selection, and this was no exception. For a restaurant that specializes in seafood, they also offer excellent meat choices.

The Pecan Ball is a scoop of vanilla ice cream rolled in toasted pecans and topped with fudge sauce.

Baked Alaska

Overall, we’d say Café Pacific executes a great restaurant week production. It’s always nice when favorites from the standard menu are available, giving you a real deal and an actual taste of the usual offerings. Restaurant Week 2013 is over for this spot, but flag it as a legitimate participant for the future.

And if you go any other time, know that the whole menu is superb. Try the short smoked salmon – amazing. You can really pop in any time, as Café Pacific offers brunch, lunch, and a mid-day bar menu in addition to dinner. Check their site for hours and details.
