The much anticipated Taverna Rossa is now open in the old Red's space at Lakeside Market in Plano. The remodel is terrific! Open kitchen, a couple of bars, and large garage doors that open to the water fountain that faces Preston Road. Windows line the walls and we're told that the restaurant will stay heated in the winter and cooled in the summer, even when the windows are open. Owners Preston Lancaster, Tony Smith and Jimmy Cannon consulted with Brian Luscher, the chef/owner of The Grape on the menu so we expected nothing less than awesome from this Craft Pizza and Beer spot.

We started with the Mason Jar Trio off the appetizer menu-a mix of homemade dips and spreads. The dippers were crusty pizza dough pieces and the dips were Pimento Cheese, Spicy Cannellini Bean and Goat Cheese with Smoked Almonds. This appetizer is so fantastic that we could not decide which dip we liked the best!

We were excited to learn they have a lunch special for $10 which included a small salad (choice of three different kinds) and any pizza (a 10" size). We opted for the Spinach and Arugula Salad with crispy pancetta and blue cheese, 33 BLT Pizza with cherry tomato basil and Texas infused olive oil, and the Farmers Pie with local Texas sausage.

The salad was light, tasty and the perfect lunch size. Both pizzas had a super thin and crispy crust with fresh ingredients piled on top. Pair a handmade cocktail with your pizza or choose a beer from the vast selection of drafts, bottles and cans and enjoy it on a night when there is live music (check the website for details). The cool vibe, great space and delicious food makes this destined to be a hot spot!
