The Corner Market is a popular staple within the Lower Greenville neighborhood, and a favorite among locals. Although the market has only been around since 2005, it occupies a quaint space bursting with history; the beautifully renovated building is nearly a century old and full of charm. The menu is varied, and boasts dishes ranging from breakfast items to specialty sandwiches and delicious deli salads. There’s an item on the menu to satisfy every taste, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Their accompanying coffee bar and well-stocked dessert case offer the perfect complement to any meal, including treats from LocalSugar favorite, Emporium Pies. Parking is somewhat limited on the street, but there’s ample seating both inside and outside, and a beautiful flower shop in the back that’s a pleasure to browse.

The full coffee bar offers plenty of options, including a tasty chai latte.

With a menu featuring a variety of sandwiches named after the nearby neighborhood streets, The Corner Market is truly a local treasure. Every dish is sure to please, but a few delectable standouts are especially noteworthy. If you’re a fan of cold sandwiches, try the Morningside Chicken Salad, a simple yet addicting staple consisting of house-made chicken salad topped with a sweet cranberry relish. To satisfy a hot sandwich craving, order the McMillan Roast Beef – their perfect blend of caramelized onions, melted Swiss cheese, and balsamic drizzle transform a standard roast beef sandwich into something unforgettable. The Marquita Miami Club, a deli twist on the popular Cuban sandwich, is another fan favorite worth ordering. Finally, The Palo Pinto Pimento is a classic sandwich that has helped The Corner Market to gain notoriety thanks to their delicious house-recipe pimento cheese. For those on the go, the market offers a chef’s case stocked with pre-made wraps and deli salads for sale by the quart, along with a drink case filled with almost every bottled soda, water, and tea you could ever crave.

On the weekends, the menu grows to feature extra breakfast items, including freshly made Belgian waffles that will perfect any brunch outing. Pair those with a latte or frappe from their coffee bar for an ideal mid-morning treat. The shop gets busy on weekends, so be sure to get there early if you’re going with a group. Or, you can kill some time while waiting for a table by looking around in their attached flower shop; they sell a variety of bouquets, arrangements, and other assorted goods that are sure to catch your eye.

The attached flower shop sells beautiful bouquets alongside an assortment of lovely housewares and trinkets.

What makes the Corner Market truly unique is its innovative rooftop garden and on-site chicken coop. They encourage sustainability by utilizing a “Corner Market Ecosystem” directly on top of the building, from which plenty of the produce they serve is sourced. From eggs laid by their chickens, to produce and honey grown and made naturally within their rooftop garden and hives, plenty of the food sold in the market is a true example of local and sustainable sourcing. In the spring and summer, keep an eye out for the beautiful flowers that bloom up there as well; many of them are sold in their flower shop downstairs. Whether you’re looking for a cozy place to grab a meal, a spot for brunch with friends, or simply somewhere to relax with a cup of coffee, The Corner Market is certainly a sidewalk café worth visiting.
