Sipping a drink or curling up with a book are both great ways to relax and unwind after a busy day. The Wild Detectives, a quaint little Bishop Arts bookstore, brilliantly combines both activities to create a perfect haven for booklovers.

Located inside a renovated house, The Wild Detectives blends in well with its surroundings. However, locals know that behind its modest exterior lies a treasure trove for readers, drinkers, and everyone in between. The shop is open, organized, and chock full of books to suit every preference. Floor-to-ceiling shelves line every wall, and they’re packed full of titles spanning every genre, style, and era. Ample seating encourages browsing, and the shop is usually full of readers busy finding a new book to enjoy. Whether you’re looking for something specific, searching for a gift to give, or simply in the mood to flip through new pages, wandering around The Wild Detectives is always a great way to pass the time.

It's easy to find a new book to enjoy at The Wild Detectives; the only challenge is choosing just one.

But books aren’t the only thing on the menu at The Wild Detectives; the shop also features a bar that serves coffee, snacks, drinks, and specialty cocktails to enjoy while you read. Basics like wine and beer are always on rotation, but seasonal cocktails like The Wild Lady are also worth trying when they’re available. Tables are available both inside and on the front porch, but a spacious backyard patio also makes for a perfect social spot if you visit with friends. But even if you’re alone, few things are as enjoyable as reading a new book while sipping a delicious drink.

The Wild Lady is just one of many rotating seasonal cocktails available at The Wild Detective.

The Wild Detectives is open until Midnight Monday through Saturday, and until 11 pm on Sundays. It’s definitely worth visiting if you’re planning a trip to Bishop Arts, but with so many books, don’t be surprised if you find yourself wanting to spend more than just a few minutes there. For an ideal experience, clear your schedule, grab a drink, and curl up in the corner with a new book to take home.
