Original Torchy's Taco Stand

It's no secret that LocalSugar (as well as the rest of Texas) loves Torchy's Tacos. From the addicting Green Chili Queso to the Smoky Brisket Tacos we have been fans since Torchy's humble beginnings in their Austin food stand. After trying most items on the menu, I have settled into a habit of ordering my favorites at every visit. Sure, there is always a Taco of the Month (November is Turkey Mole with Texas-fried Turkey, y'all) to inspire us but did you know there is actually a Secret Menu at Torchy's? You can find the menu easily on the internet but you won't find it published on the Torchy's website- they have a cheat sheet at the cash register so you just go in and order and they will know exactly what you are talking about.

Jack of Clubs

Most of the classic breakfast tacos at Torchy's have scrambled eggs in them ( did you know these are served all day?) but there's one on the Secret Menu that has a fried egg. For a change of pace try the Jack of Clubs; potatoes, black beans, crisp corn tortilla strips, shredded cheese, cilantro, sour cream, diablo sauce and a fried egg.

The Hipster

If you're an Ahi Tuna fan then you have surely savored the Mr Pink taco. But if you want a little "crunch" with your tuna you might try The Hipster; panko fried tuna, green chilies, chopped bacon, black bean relish, cotija cheese, avocado sauce and cilantro on a flour tortilla. Speaking of crunchy, the Trailer Park (with fried chicken) comes "Hillbilly Style" on the Secret Menu. Along with the fried chicken comes chorizo, chopped bacon, green chili queso, green chiles, pico de gallo, shredded cheese and poblano ranch on the side.

Mad Cow

Out of all the tacos on the Secret Menu I tried, the Mad Cow was the favorite! Fajita beef, black beans, grilled corn, jack cheese, creamy chipotle and cilantro on a flour tortilla. This was a simple, tasty combination and not as filling as some of the others. If filling is what you want (more like maximum stuffed!) try the Ace of Spades; a jalapeno sausage link, grilled brisket, green chili queso, cilantro, cotija cheese, sour cream, diablo sauce and a fried egg. This thing is big-one is all you need!

Green Chili Pork Missionary Style

If you can't decide between corn or flour tortilla why don't you try one of the following tacos on the Secret Menu that give you both? The Matador; chopped brisket, grilled jalapeno, pickled onions, jack cheese, avocado, sour cream and cilantro served with tomatillo sauce on a crisp corn tortilla wrapped in a flour tortilla or Green Chili Pork Missionary Style-green chili pork, pickled onions, jack cheese, cilantro, guacamole (ours is on the side in the above photo), creamy chipotle on a crisp corn tortilla wrapped in a flour tortilla.

The Secret Menu basically gives you more tacos to choose from so be adventurous and see if you can find a new favorite. The combinations are unique, tasty and the best part is-everyone loves being in on a "secret"! Please let us know if you have tried any of the tacos and tell us which ones are your favorites.
