Treat Yourself to Tapas at Pera

When most people think of tapas, traditional Spanish-style cuisine comes to mind. However, Pera Wine & Tapas takes the concept of shareable small plates to new places by adding refreshing Mediterranean flair. The concept is simple yet sophisticated, which makes Pera the perfect place for grabbing dinner and drinks with any size group.

At Pera, wine is at the forefront of the menu, so starting with a glass or two is always the best bet. The house wine list is full of great selections, and most pair well with the variety of dishes you’ll find on the menu. Even better, the restaurant often offers multiple happy hours and live music, which makes it an ideal place to unwind with a glass of your favorite red, white, or bubbly.

At Pera, wine is what it's all about.

The food at Pera is equally as enticing as the wine selection. Because this spot is all about tapas, the plates are small, which means they’re meant for mix-and-match-style dining. We recommend ordering a few to share, because nearly everything on the menu is worth trying. For example, the Sujuk Lollipop, which features a flavorful combination of Turkish sausage, spinach, feta, and tomato, is a savory dish that goes well alongside a helping of Pera’s sweeter Stuffed Dates. The two flavors balance in a way that you just wouldn’t experience if you only ordered one dish, which is why ordering several is always a great way to get the full tapas experience.

The Sujuk Lollipop may not look like any lollipop you've ever seen, but it's a flavorful dish to kick off your meal.

The Stuffed Dates feature a balanced blend of creamy, sweet, and slightly savory flavors, all wrapped into bite-sized packages.

However, not all plates at Pera are tiny. Some are sizable enough to enjoy as an entrée, although we still suggest ordering one or two smaller plates as an appetizer. For slightly larger fare, try the Red Snapper, which comes served atop a bed of creamy potato risotto that will tantalize your tastebuds. The Grilled Filet Mignon is another delicious option, although remember that it’s likely still a smaller steak than you’re used to. However, that’s not a bad thing, because it means you can save room for dessert.

Pera's Red Snapper and accompanying risotto will certainly make you consider ordering a second helping.

The Grilled Filet Mignon may not be the biggest steak you've ever seen, but it definitely packs big flavors into a small plate.

Pera’s dessert option highlights its Mediterranean roots: few things are as decadent as authentic Baklava, and Pera pulls the dish off beautifully. The traditional pastry is flaky, crispy, and sweet, and we can think of few better ways to round out a delicious meal.

When it comes to satisfying a sweet tooth, you really can't go wrong with an order of traditional Baklava.

Pera’s newest location on Henderson Avenue is already gaining popularity, and it’s worth checking out for their frequent happy hours alone. We recommend going after work or late at night for the best experience; don’t be surprised when your biggest challenge is simply picking which delicious dishes to order.
