Take a Veggie Break at Green Seed Vegan

Located along Almeda, halfway between the Med Center and Downtown, is the ultimate vegan hangout — Green Seed Vegan. First appearing on the Houston culinary scene as a food truck, this plant-based concept has made its mark in a city famous for burgers and barbecue. And, thanks to its Texan take on vegan cuisine, Green Seed Vegan’s brick and mortar location has been going strong since 2012. The best part? Green Seed Vegan doesn’t only appeal to the hard core vegan-types. Bring a meat-eater here and they’ll discover their love of veggies, too!

Green Seed Vegan's exterior matches the color of the majority of its ingredients.

Featuring a menu filled with creative vegan dishes from burgers and sandwiches to gluten free, vegan desserts and cold pressed, raw juice you’ll find that popping by for a quick snack is just as appealing as enjoying a full meal inside. The interior is small but comfortable and the staff is welcoming and helpful, especially if you’re new to the establishment or eating meat-free.

We recommend hitting Green Seed Vegan for lunch or a casual dinner. If you’re in the mood for a filling sandwich, try the Tosh. Between two pieces of bread you’ll enjoy maple jerk garbanzo tempeh with grilled plantains, spinach and jerk aioli. Craving a burger? The Big Tex is for you. This burger is as close you’ll get to a bacon cheeseburger without any meat or dairy to speak of. The buckwheat quinoa patty is topped with zucchini bacon, avocado, vegan cheese, jalapeño, red onions, tomato, and mayo on a whole wheat bun.

The Tex paired with cauliflower nuggets and a peaces smoothie (peanut butter, cacao, dates and banana).

Don’t stop there. A meal at Green Seed Vegan isn’t complete without a side, and the cauliflower nuggets are just perfect. In fact, we’d eat these every day if we could! Lightly fried with just the right amount of crunch this vegan delicacy is served with a homemade spicy ketchup. The dill fries, both the hand cut potato or sweet potato version, are another tasty side we love.

Sweeten the deal with delicious (and guilt-free) desserts including the root brownie, cupcakes and raw cheesecake. Believe it or not, they’re all gluten-free and vegan! Cold-pressed raw juice and smoothies make drinking your veggies easy, too.

You can't go wrong with these sweet vegan cupcakes.

This vegan hotspot is open daily from 11a.m. to 8p.m. and closed on Sundays.
